Influence of Armature Reaction on Electromagnetic Performance and Pole Shaping Effect in Consequent Pole Pm Machines

Consequent pole permanent magnet (CPPM) machines can improve the ratio of average torque to PM volume, but suffer from more serious armature reactions. In this paper, variations electromagnetic performance surface-mounted (SPM), conventional CPPM machines, and pole-shaped with reaction at currents up 5 times overload are analyzed compared. The flux densities, linkages, back EMFs, inductances, characteristics, demagnetization withstand capabilities by finite element method (FEM) frozen permeability method. It is validated that third order harmonics in inductances for tend be reduced as current rises since saturation iron prone reducing saliency effect. But tends result increase ripple components all machines. also found overall asymmetric machine significantly under conditions.
